Zimbabwean Letter of No Impediment

Zimbabweans living outside the country or abroad, who wish to get married to an individual of foreign nationality, will need to produce a Letter of No Impediment to prove that they are not involved in an existing marriage. The certificate is issued by the Registrar General/Registrar of Marriages, confirming the current nonmarital status of an individual, and is valid for six months from the date of issuing.

If you’ve been previously married, you will require a Letter of No Impediment (together with a decree of divorce) to prove that you are not currently married. Without this document, you may not be allowed to marry within the borders of foreign nations.

An original Zimbabwean Letter of No Impediment can be legalised on an official Registrar General/Registrar of Marriages letterhead, after which it will be signed and stamped by an authorised official.

A valid Letter of No Impediment that can legally be used to get married abroad is one issued by the Registrar General/Registrar of Marriages only.

A Zimbabwean Letter of No Impediment may be used for legal processes both inside and outside of Zimbabwe, including visa and residency applications.

Alternative Terms Used to Call a Zimbabwean Letter of No Impediment:

  • Certificate of No Impediment
  • Non-marriage Certificate
