Botswana Letter of No Impediment

Any citizen of Botswana who wishes to get married abroad is required by law, to provide foreign authorities with a Botswana Letter of No Impediment, which states that you are eligible to marry and that there are no legal reasons why you cannot get married.

Applying for a Botswana Letter of No Impediment

In order for you, as a citizen of Botswana, to acquire a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage, also known as a Single Status Certificate, Clearance Central will require the following from you:

  • Completed Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage form
  • Certified copy of Omang and passport (page 1 and 2)
  • Two certified copies of applicant’s Birth Certificate
  • Two certified copies of future spouse’s passport by relevant Embassy or High Commission.
  • Two certified copies of Divorce Decree Absolute (if you or your future spouse have been married before and divorced).
  • Two certified copies of late spouse’s Death Certificate (if applicable).’
  • Letter from your home village chief with 3 witnesses.

Upon receipt of your documents, Clearance Central will submit your application on your behalf to the Department of Civil and National Registration

Head Office in Gaberone, Botswana.
