The South African Council for Educators or SACE is the professional council that governs the enhancement status of teaching as a profession by monitoring adequate requirements of educator registration, progressive development of the occupation on a professional level and maintaining a standard code of ethics which are to be upheld by all educators.
Section 21 of the South African Council for Educators Act, 2000 requires that:
- every educator contemplated by the Act must register with the Council before appointment to a teaching post.
- no person may be employed as an educator by an employer unless that person is registered with the Council.
